Exploration of Responses to Potassium in Western Uruguay

Several regions of Uruguay has recently shown K deficiencies and responses. This project looks to determine the different areas with K deficiency, evaluate responses in the main field crops, and provide information on K soil testing.

Exploration of responses to potassium in Western Uruguay - Results field trials 2007/08

Exploration of responses to potassium in Western Uruguay - Results field trials 2007/08

Three corn field experiments were established in contrasting soils in the western Uruguay agricultural region in the 2007/08 season. The objective of these studies was to explore K deficiency and yield response under different soils.

Results are summarized in the following table:

El Paraiso and Tres Aguas show no response either to K or S. Responses to K at La Macarena were similar to the ones observed at a previous site on the 2006/07 season (see 2006/07 Results), and at experiments carried out by other researchers in the area.

Future research will look into the potential area with K deficiency in the region in collaboration with the Faculty of Agronomy (Universidad de la Republica, Uruguay), INIA, and local coops.
