Soil Nutrient Stratification in Long-term Sustainable Cropping Systems Research Study

A tillage by rotation study evaluated after 11 years to determine if the use of no-till had led to nutrient stratification in the plots. The results of this study indicate that nutrients did become stratified, but the effect was minor.

Objectives

The long-term objective of this study is to determine what cropping and tillage systems are the most viable in the Dark Brown-Black transition soil zone, while sustaining or improving soil productivity and environmental quality. Specifically, our current focus is on the soil nutrient stratification after 12 years of cropping with conventional and no-till seeding systems.
