1999 Annual Interpretive Summary

Nutrient management strategies project in Yunnan province, 1999

In Yunnan province, tea plants had very good response to balanced fertilizers in yield, quality and net income in three locations, which was even better in 2000 than in 1999. The tea yield increase over the K0 treatment was 1486 kg/ha (15.2%) at Menghai, 3060 kg/ha (30.0%) at Simao and 2989 kg/ha (42.5%) at Eshan. The net income increase vs. K0 at the three locations was $US575/ha at Menghai, $US642/ha at Simao and $US1029/ha at Eshan, respectively. Neither tea yield or net income was benefited from K2SO4 vs. KCl in 1999 but got improved slightly in 2000. The balanced fertilizer technology can be applicable to 161.2 thousand ha of tea plantation in Yunnan. The estimated potential for increased K2O use per year on tea can reach to 20 thousand tons (by 20% of increase per year). YUNNAN-NMS01
