1999 Annual Interpretive Summary

Nutrient management strategies project in Tibet, 1999

It was the first year that BFDP field trials were conducted in Tibet. The results clearly demonstrated that balanced fertilizers increased spring wheat yield by 951 kg/ha or 28.4% as compared to K0 treatment and by 900 kg/ha or 26.5% as compared to P0 treatment. Application of K fertilizer to rape increased seed yield by 300 kg/ha or 10%. It appeared that N is still number one limiting factor in crop production in Tibet, though soil testing showed that available K was extremely low in the soils under study. Due to lack of qualified expertise in soil science and certified experimental data available in Tibet, it is unclear to date the exact potential of K2O in Tibet. TIBET-NMS01
