1997 Annual Interpretive Summary

The effect of Fe(ll) coated fertilizers on correction of iron deficiency in high value crops in Sichuan province, 1997

Three different iron (Fe) coated fertilizers were tested on peanut, citrus and peach. In a pot study, peanut yield increased up to 50 percent with additions of Fe fertilizer. Fertilizer coated with the ferrous (Fe+2) form gave the best yield while fertilizer coated with chelated FeEDDHA caused abnormal growth and lower yield on the calcareous soil. In the field at Ziyang, citrus yields were increased 66 percent from a zero Fe control with the addition of Fe+2 coated fertilizer. Yield responses at Jiangyang were similar in magnitude, but the overall yield was lower due to drought. At Longquan, 1.0 kg Fe+2 coated fertilizer/peach tree provided the best yield on the 'purple' calcareous soil. SICHUAN-10
