Soil Nutrient Management and Balanced Fertilization in Ningxia, 2006

Rice trials were conducted in a seed-breeding farm in Lingwu City, corn and wheat trials were conducted in Wuzhong City, a watermelon trial was established in Zhongwei City, and celery, spinach, chili, and eggplant trials were conducted in Wuzhong City and Huinong County.

The balanced optimum (OPT) for rice was determined to be 225-150-150 kg N-P2O5-K2O/ha. Application of 45 kg K2O/ha along with 195 kg N/ha and 90 kg P2O5/ha increased wheat yield by 8% (338 kg/ha) over the K omission treatment. The watermelon experiment found the OPT to be 90-90-90 kg/ha, which produced 1,299 kg/ha (10%) more than the treatment omitting K. The series of vegetable trials determined the balanced OPT treatments to be 150-150-150 kg/ha for celery, 180-150-120 kg/ha for chili, and 450-150-120 kg/ha for eggplant. In the case of chili, the OPT returned an additional US$1,931/ha compared to the K omission treatment. Similarly, in eggplant, the OPT returned an additional US$1,035/ha compared to the K omission treatment. Ningxia-NMBF
