Adequate potash and other fertilizers for high yield banana in Hainan province, 1996

Application of 1,200 kg K2O/ha to banana resulted in 83.6 percent yield increase in Hainan province. Despite higher rates, the local 15-15-15 N-P2O5-K2O compound fertilizer applied at 1,200 kg/ha resulted in 3 percent lower yields than a balanced N, P and K treatment. In addition to the yield advantage, proper fertilization resulted in banana maturing faster compared to local farmer practices. Compared to traditional P fertilization practices in banana, a 10.2 percent yield increase was obtained through increasing P2O5 to 200 kg/ha. An additional research year will provide excellent information on banana nutrition in southern China. HAINAN-02
