1996 Annual Interpretive Summary

Balanced fertilization study on crops in Guizhou province, 1996

Significant yield increases on a variety of crops have been obtained in Guizhou province with balanced fertilization practices. Thirty percent yield increases were obtained with potato and watermelon by increasing the overall amount of fertilizer applied in the proper ratios. In corn, economic analysis revealed the application of 52 kg K2O/ha and 144 kg P2O5/ha was profitable. An interaction between P and K was observed in both the yield and seed weight of rapeseed. A 7.4 percent increase in rapeseed yield was observed with addition of P; however, a 23.4 percent yield increase was achieved with a P and K combination. Finally, sweet potato showed a large response to fertilization as yield increased 4.6 kg for each kg of CaMgK fertilizer and 16.9 kg for each kg of K2O. Efforts are now concentrated on ensuring that farmers are aware of these new production potentials. GUIZHOU-03
