1998 Annual Interpretive Summary

Balanced fertilization study on crops in Guizhou province, 1998

Systematic soil analysis indicated that soils in Guizhou province are commonly deficient in P and K. Field trial results in 1998 revealed that most test crops showed a good response to K, but not to P application. Further studies have been designed to uncover the reasons for the poor crop response to P fertilizer. Compared to -K plots, results showed that K application significantly increased yields for corn, potato and sweet potato by 18.6 to 20.2, 38.7 to 52.9, and 10.2 percent, respectively. Efforts are continuing to convey the message of the need for K fertilizer. Local leaders and farmers are made aware through demonstrations and media resources in the province. GUIZHOU-03
