1999 Annual Interpretive Summary

Nutrient management strategies project in Chongqing, 1999

The experiments were conducted on four acidic purple soils to test the effect of balanced fertilizers on yield and quality of green pepper. The balanced fertilizer treatments (210-315 kg K2O/ha) over farmer’s practice (K0) increased sweet pepper yields by 5474-11701 kg/ha (33.1%-71.3%) and net income by RMB 5867-15467 yuan/ha in the acid garden soils. Adequate supply of K and P fertilizers to sweet pepper could increase content of solid substances in pepper and prolong shelf-time. The balanced fertilizer technology can be adopted in 267.2 thousand ha of vegetable growing area in Chongqing district. The estimated potential for increased K2O use per year on vegetables can reach to 11 thousand tons (by 20% of increase per year). CHONGQUING-NMS02
