1999 Annual Interpretive Summary

Nutrient management strategies project in Chongqing, 1999

The experiments were conducted on gray brown purple soil at Xinwan Village, Xiema Town and Lianhe Village, Beiquan Town, Beibei District. The soils were severe deficient in P and K. The balanced fertilizer treatment (284-200-240-Zn kg/ha) increased corn yield by 1305 kg/ha (21.48%) over K0, 1965 kg/ha (36.29%) over P0 and 975 kg/ha (15.22%) over the farmer’s practice on the gray brown purple soil at Beiquan town. Starch in corn seeds of K0 treatment vs. balanced fertilizer application was reduced by 6.5%, starch and crude protein in corn seeds of P0 treatment vs. balanced fertilizer application was reduced by 4.4% and 1.1%, respectively. In the demonstration fields, balanced fertilizers increased corn yield by 6.4% to 43.9%. This can be applicable to 1.5 million ha of corn fields in Chongqing and its neighbor province Sichuan. The estimated potential for increased K2O use per year can reach to 54 thousand tons (by 15% of increase per year). CHONGQUING-NMS01
