Improvement of Winter Wheat Mineral Nutrition on Calcareous Common Chernozems

A one-season demonstration experiment in winter wheat grown after sunflower is conducted on farmer’s field. Recommended nutrient management is compared with farmer fertilizer practice. The variability of soil fertility is also studied in this project.

IPNI-2012-RUS-3

Potassium omission plot in winter wheat was initiated in the fall 2012. It is a one-season demonstration experiment in winter wheat conducted on farmer’s field (Egorlyk District, Rostov Oblast, Southern Russia) in one replication. Two fertilizer treatments are studied: N54P52 (farmer practice) and N54P52 + K40. Plot size is 19. 5 ha. Winter wheat is grown after sunflower. Read more

Interpretive Summary

2013

This project assessed the spatial variability in soil fertility parameters using 27 soil samples (0 to 20 cm soil depth) collected from the experimental area of 39 ha prior to starting the field experiment. The experiment comprised of two demonstration plots of 19. 5 ha each. Soil test results showed that the nitrate-N concentration varied from very low to low (average 4. 8 ppm), ammonium-N averaged 22.

2012

A K omission plot demonstration trial in winter wheat was initiated in fall 2012. It is a one-season demonstration experiment conducted on farmer’s field (Egorlyk District, Rostov Oblast, Southern Russia) in one replication to show the effects of K fertilization to growers in the region, who normally skip K fertilization. Two fertilizer treatments were studied: N40P26 (farmer practice) and N40P26K40. Plot size is about 19. 5 ha. Winter wheat was grown after sunflower.
