1996 Annual Interpretive Summary
Feasibility of a One-Pass (Seeding and Fertilizer) System for Winter Wheat, 1996
Farmers in eastern Saskatchewan want to apply all their winter wheat’s N needs during the seeding operation, but are concerned the high rates of N may interfere with the cold-hardiness process. This project is studying how much and what source of N can be safely applied with the seed and if applied P will increase winter survival and recovery from low temperature injury. Results suggest application of all the N at seeding may not be the best management practice. Nitrogen form may affect yield depending on soil texture and time of application. Data on the impact of P have been inconclusive. SK-14
