Project Description

Cotton and soybean are major crops in the Vertisol region of Maharastra. The current project was initiated to characterize and assess fertility status of soils in intensive cotton and soybean growing areas of Maharashtra, study the response of cotton and soybean to major nutrients and response variability across spatial and temporal scale. The nutrient uptake pattern, nutrient use efficiency and residual soil fertility would be assessed in farmers' fields through nutrient omission technique to contribute to the development of nutrient decision support tools for cotton and soybean and to create awareness among farmers for optimized nutrient use for improved cotton and soybean yields and profitability in Vertisols region of Maharashtra.
